What does 0700 military time signify?

What Is 0700 military time?

0700 military time, or 0700 hrs, is a term used in the armed forces which corresponds to 7:00 am in civilian time. In the United States military, the 24-hour clock system is the official standard for communicating the time of day. This format is based on a 24 hour period where midnight is 0000 hrs, and noon is 1200 hrs.

In this system of communication, every hour on the clock is divided up into two 30 minute intervals. Halfway through each interval is five minutes, and it looks something like this: 0030hrs, 0035hrs etc. This type of time-telling format can be beneficial when specifying times due to its easy to understand structure.

Using military time can also be beneficial when referencing times which transcend daylight savings and other seasonal changes in global standards of keeping time. It conveys times accurately which could otherwise be confused when crossing international boundaries or during situations when it may not be known what standard of keeping time has been adopted by a particular country or area of operation. Additionally, since one hour corresponds directly with one number on a digital clock face, it eliminates any possible confusion in regards to writing out traditional am/pm times.
